Apa Yang Berubah Dalam Bil TNB Anda?
AFA ≠ Penggunaan Lebih
Dua bulan penggunaan kWh hampir sama, tapi bil berbeza? Itulah kesan AFA. Ia bukan bermakna anda membazir lebih — kadar surcaj berubah mengikut kos bahan api bulan tersebut.
Tarif RP4: Berapa Anda Bayar Setiap kWh?
Perlindungan 800 kWh: Ada, Tapi Sehingga Dis 2026 Sahaja
- AFA (Automatic Fuel Adjustment)
- Retail Charge
- Cukai Perkhidmatan
Tetingkap Ini Tutup 31 Disember 2026
Cara Kekalkan Penggunaan Bawah 800 kWh — Mulai Hari Ini
Anda tak perlu jadi jurutera elektrik untuk kawal bil. Berikut langkah konkrit yang boleh dibuat segera:
1. Kenalpasti Penyumbang Terbesar
Kira Impak Kepada Bajet Anda
Katakan keluarga anda biasa guna 750 kWh sebulan.

Ringkasan: 3 Perkara Yang Perlu Anda Buat Minggu Ini
October's TNB bill has landed — and many Malaysians are staring at a number higher than expected. You probably didn't use significantly more electricity. The system changed, and most of us weren't told. The good news: the government just expanded bill protection, and there's a window open until 31 December 2026 to take full advantage of it.
What's Changed in Your TNB Bill?
Since 1 July 2025, the familiar ICPT line at the bottom of your TNB bill is gone. It has been replaced by the AFA — Automatic Fuel Adjustment, a monthly surcharge or rebate based on current fuel and generation costs. AFA can appear as a surcharge (you pay more) or a rebate (you pay less), depending on that month's fuel market.
The AFA rate for October 2026 is +3.61 sen/kWh — meaning it is currently a surcharge, not a rebate. September's rate was +3.67 sen/kWh. This figure shifts every month in line with global fuel prices, so your bill can fluctuate even if your kWh usage stays exactly the same.
AFA ≠ Using More Electricity
Two months of nearly identical kWh usage, but very different bills? That's the AFA effect. It doesn't mean you wasted more power — the surcharge rate changed based on that month's fuel cost.
RP4 Tariff: What You're Paying Per kWh
Under the Regulatory Period 4 (RP4) framework, domestic energy charges are structured as follows:
- 0–200 kWh: RM0.218/kWh
- 201–300 kWh: RM0.334/kWh
- 301–600 kWh: RM0.516/kWh
- Above 600 kWh: RM0.546/kWh
On top of this, if your consumption exceeds 600 kWh and your billing period is 28 days or more, an 8% service tax applies to usage above 600 kWh. Crossing that threshold doesn't just mean a higher unit rate — it triggers additional charges too.
The 800 kWh Protection: Real, But Only Until December 2026
On 17 September 2026, the government announced an expansion of the electricity bill protection threshold — from 600 kWh to 800 kWh per month, effective for consumption from 1 September to 31 December 2026.
Domestic customers using 800 kWh and below per month are exempt from three charges:
- AFA (Automatic Fuel Adjustment)
- Retail Charge
- Service Tax
More than 8 million customers — roughly 90% of TNB's domestic customers — are eligible for this benefit. For customers who used between 601–800 kWh in September 2026, the adjustment credit will appear directly in your October 2026 bill — so check it now.
This Window Closes 31 December 2026
The 800 kWh protection is temporary — September to December 2026 only. After that, the threshold reverts to 600 kWh. Use this period to build lasting energy-saving habits before protection ends.
How to Stay Under 800 kWh — Starting Today
You don't need to be an engineer to manage your electricity bill. Here are concrete steps you can take right now:
1. Find Your Biggest Energy Drain
Air-conditioning is the single biggest consumer in most Malaysian homes. Set your unit to 24°C — every 1°C warmer can cut energy use by up to 6%. Use "auto fan" mode rather than "low" for more efficient airflow.
2. Check Your Appliances' Energy Star Rating
Old refrigerators, washing machines, and water heaters can consume double the electricity of newer 4–5 star rated models. If your appliances are 8–10 years old, calculate whether replacing them is cheaper in the long run.
3. Unplug Standby Devices
TVs, phone chargers, and rice cookers on standby still draw power. The habit of unplugging unused devices can save 5–10% on your monthly bill — with zero extra spending.
4. Monitor Usage via myTNB
Use the myTNB app to track your daily kWh usage. If you're approaching 800 kWh before the end of the month, you still have time to adjust habits before crossing the threshold.
5. Schedule Heavy Appliances Off-Peak
If you're eligible for the Domestic Time-of-Use (ToU) scheme, run your washing machine and water heater at night (11pm–8am), when rates are lower.
What This Means for Your Budget
Say your household typically uses 750 kWh per month. Under the current protection, you're exempted from AFA (+3.61 sen × 750 kWh = ~RM27), retail charge, and service tax. The real savings may feel modest — but they matter when year-end costs like school fees, festive spending, and rising groceries are all hitting at once.
Make TNB your bill a fixed, tracked commitment in your monthly records. Electricity bills have a habit of creeping up quietly — especially when AFA shifts month to month — until you suddenly notice a jump that's hard to reverse.

Summary: 3 Things to Do This Week
- Check your October bill — confirm the September adjustment credit has been applied if you used 601–800 kWh last month.
- Monitor your meter via myTNB — aim to stay below 800 kWh through 31 December 2026.
- Track TNB as a fixed monthly commitment — so you can spot usage patterns early and act before the bill spikes.
Small daily costs like electricity are easy to overlook — until they accumulate into a significant financial burden. The best time to understand and control your bill is right now, while the protection window is still open.
